Dr Shakerra Carter of San Diego College of Continuing Teaching Selected for the Aspen Institute s Rising Presidents Fellowship Photo courtesy of SDCCE Shakerra Carter Ed D Vice President of Trainee Services at San Diego College of Continuing Instruction has been selected as one of participants in the Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship a undertaking of the Aspen Institute College Excellence Initiative She was chosen from more than applicants nationwide The fellowship is designed to prepare senior leaders at society colleges for future presidential roles Participants will take part in a -month scheme focused on aspirant success equity and institutional effectiveness The group includes leaders from states and represents a mix of urban and rural colleges I look forward to engaging with the Aspen Institute s practices and bringing that insight back to help help candidate success at our college Dr Carter mentioned The Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship aims to prepare the next generation of area college presidents as a large number of current leaders are expected to retire in the coming years Fellows work with experienced college presidents and analysis local labor area conditions learner outcomes and long-term strategies for improving college performance Fellows are selected based on their focus on attendee outcomes and interest in pursuing a college presidency within five years The fellowship is supported by the Burton Family Foundation Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies College Futures Foundation and the Mellon Foundation
