Fans of all ages will find something to cheer about thanks to the variety of summer concerts coming up in File photo by Chris Stone Times of San Diego To paraphrase the song by Martha and the Vandellas summer s here and the time is right for dancing in the street And on the beach And at the fairgrounds And at lots of other places in San Diego Friday marks the official first day of the summer and if you re looking for where the party s at guess what It s everywhere Between Friday and the end of summer on Sept there s lots of concerts and festivals all over town to attend Here s a look at various of the greater part notable the fun starts this weekend Additional information about each concert is available by clicking the links Now through July The Toyota Summer Concert Series at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar The concerts which are an annual fair tradition attract huge names across a wide number of genres each year Among those set to perform over the next sparse weeks include alternative rock band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on June reggae royalty Ziggy Marley on July and Mexican norte o band Los Tucanes De Tijuana on July Now through Aug Santee Summer Concerts a series of weekly free family friendly concerts takes place Thursdays at Santee s Town Center Locality Park East Music to be performed includes modern classic country soulful blues and country rock Performances begin at p m and end two hours later Dogs are welcome Saturday through Aug The SeaWorld Summer Spectacular Concert Series At p m every Saturday through the bulk of August except July several of the more recognizable names in rap hip-hop and R B are performing at SeaWorld s Bayside Amphitheater The scheduled shows include the I Love the s Tour on Aug featuring a lineup of s artists including Color Me Badd Rob Base Treach of Naughty by Nature and Young MC and the Turnt Up Tour on Aug featuring s rappers Petey Pablo Paul Wall J-Kwon and Bubba Sparxxx Saturday and Sunday The San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival at Rady Shell at Jacobs Park The festival now in its seventh year boasts nearly a dozen performances over two days with Brian Culbertson Will Downing and October London among the scheduled acts Saturday and Sunday Into the Horizon at Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego This year s version of the electronic dance music festival features acts The Chainsmokers and Alesso headlining Saturday with Sofi Tukker and Gryffin among the top acts on Sunday More than two dozen other DJs and electronic acts are also scheduled to perform July The Almost Nakey Freedom Fest at the Beach House This Independence Day-themed event which features two stages near the Mission Beach boardwalk is headlined by hip-hop artist Nelly of Hot in Herre fame Other artists on the bill include French DJ producer Shiba San and dance music songstress Kaleena Zanders July -Aug SummerFest at the La Jolla Music Society A total of concerts are scheduled for this month-long classical string music festival and dozens of international musicians are scheduled to take part The majority are scheduled for the -seat Baker-Baum Concert Hall with a handful at the more intimate The JAI Aug - The Holo Holo Music Festival will celebrate island custom at Petco Park s Gallagher Square This year s event features acts including Polynesian artist J Boog and San Diego-based urban reggae band Tribal Theory on Day Day includes legendary musician Wyclef Jean best known as one-third of the hip-hop act The Fugees and Grammy nominated American Hawaiian and Samoan reggae rock pop band Common Kings coming straight outta Orange County Sept - The Adams Avenue Street Fair Self-proclaimed as San Diego s favorite music festival the free family-friendly event attracts more than people in Normal Heights annually The edition boasts musical acts on seven stages with local musicians from nearly every genre slated to perform
